Polyethylene Pressure Pipe
Polyethylene pipes & fittings have a proven high reliability record across a wide range of industries and applications, now approaching a period of 50 years. PE also provides a long maintenance free lifetime with low whole life costs, compared to many other materials, as evidenced by the WSAA Polyethylene Pipeline Code, which predicts life well in excess of 100 years before major rehabilitation is required.

- High Impact Strength
- Damage resistance – PE has low notch sensitivity, providing a high level of resistance to the effects of external damage, especialy for important pipe busting operations.
- Abrasion resistance – Vinidex PE pipes have excellent abrasion resistance providing long life in abrasive slurry applications.
- Chemical resistance – outstanding resistance to a wide range of chemical reagents allows the use of PE systems in tailings pipelines and chemcial treatment applications used in mining operations.
- Flexibility – PE pipes can be bent to a minimum of 30 times the pipe’s outside diameter for HDPE. This flexibility and resiliency allows the pipe to absorb surge pressures, vibration and stresses caused by soil movement. This makes the pipes particularly useful in submarine pipe lines, mine subsidence and earthquake prone areas.
- Ease of installation – PE is easy to install with light weights and long lengths, minimising jointing requirements. This makes PE ideal for stock watering, irrigation, communication, gas and water applications.
- High flow capacity – low friction compared with materials such as fibre reinforced cement and resistance to material deposit buildup give PE pipes long lived high flow capacity.
- Weathering resistance – black PE pipes are stabilised against UV light degradation so are suitable for above ground installations.
- Co-extrusion – Vinidex PE pipe is available in a range of identifying colours that can be striped or have a “jacket” surrounding the pipe.
- Long life – PE pipes have proven reliability across a range of applications, around 50 years. The WSAA Polyethylene Pipeline Code predicts a life in excess of 100 years before major rehabilitation is required.
- Trenchless construction – due to their inherent characteristics, PE pipes can be used in slip lining, pipe bursting, directional drilling and micro-tunnelling. These save significant cost and environmental disruption in water supply, sewerage, conduit and gas applications.
