How do StormFLO pipes compare against Reinforced Concrete Pipes?

More versatile

Vinidex StormFLO pipes are more versatile than concrete pipes. Under the right conditions, Vinidex SN8 pipe can be used as an alternative to multiple classes of concrete pipes.

Lightweight for fast installation

On average, StormFLO takes less than a quarter of the time to install compared to reinforced concrete pipes (RCP)¹,²

Project Savings

Compared to reinforced concrete pipe, on average choosing StormFLO results in a 31% reduction in the overall installed cost.¹

Flexible and durable

Unlike concrete pipes that must be capable of fully supporting any applied loading, when StormFLO pipes are subjected to loading, the pipe will initially deflect and take advantage of the lateral pressure provided by the surrounding soil. After initial settlement, there is no further increase in pipe deflection.

Smooth and efficient water flow

StormFLO pipes have a smoother internal surface increasing the efficiency of water flow & hydraulic performance by 27%, therefore a reduced pipe diameter may be achievable for StormFLO, resulting in additional project cost savings.³

1. Based on an independent assessment of the installation requirements for DN300,DN450 and DN600 StormFLO SN8 and Class 2 RCP.

2. This comparison is based on an independent assessment by The Engineering and Design Company Pty Ltd (E&DCo) of the installation of StormFLO SN8 twin wall corrugated PE stormwater pipe and Class 2 RCP. E&DCo relied on the requirements of Australian Standards (AS/NZS 2566.2 “Buried flexible pipelines – Installation” and AS/NZS 3725 “Design for installation of buried concrete pipes”) and their own database of construction costs in preparing this assessment. The following site conditions have been assumed:
– pipes installed in straight, uninterrupted lengths trench geometry to the relevant Australian Standard
– cover height 750mm
– no groundwater or other adverse ground conditions.
– comparison data has been rounded to the nearest whole number where applicable

3. RCP results in 27% more head loss than StormFLO in this example
DN300 SN8 StormFLO – Flow Rate 100L/s
DN300 Class 2 RCP – Flow Rate 100L/S
